American Students
For American graduate-level students, the Crown Prince Akihito Scholarship covers one or two years of study in Japan with an annual $30,000 scholarship award plus $15,000 annual allowance, which will cover tuition and one-time round trip airfare from Honolulu to Japan.
This scholarship is open to American graduate students at the University of Hawaii at Manoa pursuing study in a subject area leading to better understanding between Japan and the U.S.
Do you know any prospective graduate-level applicants who may be interested in applying for the CPASF scholarship to study or do research for their Masters or Doctorate degree in Japan? Applications are available annually in the early Fall with a deadline of late October. Please check back in late August for the latest application.
Japanese Students
For Japanese students, the Crown Prince Akihito Scholarship is awarded to a graduate student in Japan for study at the University of Hawaii at Manoa who is pursuing a subject area leading to better understanding between Japan and the United States.
The scholarship provides a full-tuition scholarship from the University of Hawaii Foundation for one or two years of study at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, $38,000 per year for living expenses, and up to $1,500 for a one-time round-trip economy class airfare from Japan to Honolulu.
