She went on to Stanford University after the University of Hawaii PhD program and was a Fulbright fellow there. She returned to Keio, the same campus as a Fulbright fellow for her dissertation research. She went onto become a literary translator, translating novels by Hayashi Mariko, Mori Yoko, and Yamada Eimi (Amy Yamada) into English.
